A new Android version is now available for Motorola Droid 4 XT894, which is Jellybean 4.3 Android OS. This is not an official update by Motorola but an aftermarket custom ROM build by the cyanogen Mod team based on Android 4.3 Jellybean, which packs with all the advanced features of Jellybean 4.3. Cyanogen mod is popular for their better performance and reliability than stock ROM and they have started rolling out the new version CyanogenMod 10.2 with many new features and customisation as well as some security enhancements with better features than the previous build. These custom ROMs are build from the sources of Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Therefore, if you want to try out the latest Android 4.3 Jellybean based CM10.2 nightly ROM on your Motorola Droid 4, then follow the systematic procedure written below.
Installation Instruction of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Based CM10.2 nightly ROM on Motorola Droid 4
Step 1:
First download the CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM for Motorola Droid 4 CM10.2 Nightly ROM for Motorola Droid 4 [Filename: cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-maserati.zip] and Google Apps [Filename: gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip]
Step 2:
Connect your Motorola Droid 4 using the USB cable and the mount your storage.
Step 3:
Copy the downloaded files into the SD card without extracting the files.
Step4:
Disconnect phone after the copying process is finished.
Step5:
Now boot into Safestrap recovery. To do so, first press power button to turn device on then after the Motorola splash screen, you should see the Safestrap screen. The Safestrap screen should show Safestrap Disabled in red, Recovery at the bottom left, and Continue at the bottom right. Tap on Recovery button on the Safestrap main screen to boot into Safestrap recovery mode. You can also try this: Recovery Mode without Key Combination.
Step6:
It is important to backup your existing ROM, it will be handy if the new ROM is not working or if you want to go back to your previous ROM. To do the process, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup process done.
Step7:
To avoid clashing between the new ROM and previous ROM you will need to perform some wiping task. To wipe, select wipe data/factory reset, then select yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wiping process done. Now go back to CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition and after wiping cache partition process completed, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to perform Dalvik cache wiping. After the process is done it is safe to proceed to the next step.
Step8:
For installing, Select install zip from SD card, and then select choose zip from SD card. Now, locate the cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-maserati.zip file that you copied earlier in Step 3 and select it by pressing Power button. On the next screen confirm the installation. And the installation process will start.
Step9:
After the installation process, install the gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip by repeating the process you have done in the step 8 the only difference is selecting the gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip instead of ROM zip.
Step10:
After all the process is done. Go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot the phone. The smartphone will get booted into the new ROM, the first boot usually take about 5 minutes. (Max 15 min or it will get stuck on the boot screen.)
