LG Optimus Black p970 Smartphone users can now update their phone with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean based latest Avatar ROM. This is not an official Jelly Bean firmware, rather a custom made after-market firmware. Optimus Black p970 has 2.3.4 GB out of box which can upgraded to 4.0 ICS officially. We haven’t officially heard anything from the company about a Jelly Bean firmware update for the LG Optimus Black, but with the help of AvatarRom you can enjoy the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware on your phone.
Recently Avatar announced the AvatarROM build on 2.16b custom ROM based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean which supports Optimus Black p970. You can enjoy all the features of CyanogenMod with beautiful MIUI themes in Optimus Black p970, ase AvatarROM in its latest build used CyanogenMod (as a base) and combined it with their MIUI theme. To install the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean AvatarROM buid 2.16b ROM on Optimus Black p970 follow these steps:
Instructions for Installing Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean AvatarROM buid 2.16b ROM on Optimus Black p970:
Download AvatarROM buid 2.16b ROM on Optimus Black p 970 [avatar-2.16b-1295-20130622-p970.zip] and Google apps [named gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip].
Step 2 :
Now, use a USB cable to connect your optimus Black p970 to the PC and mount your storage.
Step 3 :
If you can access your phone’s SD card content from your PC, copy the downloaded zip files and paste them into your phone’s SD card (Warning : Do not extract any files).
Step 4 :
After the coping procedure is complete, disconnect the USB cable and switch off your phone.
Step 5 :
Now hold the Power and volume Down buttons together until you enter recovery mode. (In recovery mode Volume buttons are for scrolling and the power button is to select). You can also try accessing the recovery mode without key combination.
Step 6 :
You should always perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM. In case this new ROM doesn’t work, you can always restore your backup. For performing backup a Nandroid, select Backup and Restore, and then select Backup again on next screen. After the backup procedure done, go back to main recovery menu.
Step 7 :
Now we will do some wiping tasks to prevent a clash between the previous ROM and new ROM. For this, select wipe data/factory reset, and select Yes for conformation on next screen. Return back to the main recovery menu after the wiping process done. Now select wipe cache partition and as the process completes, select Wipe Dalvik Cache in advance option. Now you may safely move on to the next step.
Step 8 :
Select install zip from SD card. Find the location of the 2.16b-1295-20130622-p970.zip file on your phone and select it using the power button. Now the ROM installation process should start.
Step 9 :
Once the installation process finishes, choose gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip to install the Google apps package.
Step 10 :
Once you are done with all the above steps, go back to the main recovery menu and reboot your system by selecting ‘reboot system’.
NOTE: If the first boot takes longer than 15 minutes, you’re stuck on the boot screen.
