Rooting of Sony Xperia J and installationg with the Custom Recovery image is now possible but before moving forward, let’s first look at the benefits of rooting. Once rooted, you can install many apps which need root access and also custom ROM firmwares which will be released shortly. You’ll have to follow the below mentioned pre requisites before you check the detailed instructions to root your device and install the Clock Work mod recovery;

Download and extract the Rooting package and CWM package to your desktop. You’ll see a file named Runme.bat once the package is extracted. Run it with administrator privileges by Shift + Right Clicking on the file.
With the help of a USB cable connect your device to the computer and follow the onscreen instructions to root the device.
Extract the CWM package and run the “Runme.bat” file once the rooting process is completed. Wait for the process complete.
Download “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store to check whether the device is rooted or not.
Follow the below mentioned instructions if you wish to unroot your device at any point of time.
Procedure to UnRoot SONY Xperia J Smartphone:
Download the Stock / Default ROM for SONY Xperia J and Flash tool from here to your computer and click on Flash tool to install it.
You’ll get the stock firmware file (.ftf extension) after the extraction of Firmware. Open the Flash tool and select the same.
Press and hold the Volume DOWN button after your device is turned OFF and connect your device to the computer via USB cable.
Now the firmware will be flashed onto the device and you will see that the factory firmware will be successfully restored.
