Facebook New Android App Announced - Get the Beta Version

Despite being the most popular application in the play store and their continuous effort over the past 1 year, Facebook is still not that good an application. Notifications still don’t open up easily and we all know how long it often takes to load a page. Also, the Facebook application doesn’t use the proper API to sync contacts. However, Facebook has been very open about the flaws in the application and. To improve their application, Facebook has launched a partner-beta programme in which pre-release versions of the Facebook application are given to the ‘leading industry partners’ such as HTC, Ericsson, Sony, Qualcomm, MediaTek and Huawei(surprisingly Samsung is not included) so that they can help improve the application. Users can also sign up for the beta programme and test pre-release editions of the application through the Play Store’s beta testing process. Here are the steps to sign up for the beta programme :

  • Update your application by downloading Facebook from the Play Store.
  • To engage in discussion about the applicatoin join the ‘Facebook for Android Beta Testers’ group.
  • No need to worry if you face 404 error in the 2nd step, just try a few more times and eventually it will work. These are the changes made in the first beta version:
  • News Feed stories can now be shared in a private message.
  • chat and bookmarks can be accessed by just swiping left and right.
  • Now the app can be stored even on an SD card (Android 2.3.7 and lower).
