Motorola has released a new qwerty Android phone dubbed as “Droid 5”. Leaks and sources gave us the information that it will come with Verizon wireless at first and then will be released across all supported service providers. This phone is the 5th generation of smartphone having a physical keyboard ie. the QWERTY keyboard which has to be slided in order to use it. It can be charged wirelessly as well with the copper inductive coil. So let’s have a look at the specs and features of this qwerty phone.

It comes with the New Dual Core X8 processor which is also present in the Droid Ultra Smartphone and the Moto X. This smartphone features a 4.3inches or 4.5 inches of screen and comes with the Keyboard which is present only in Droid Mini, a 10-megapixel Clear Pixel Camera module, a shockproof, water and dust resistant design, making it easy to use in the active lifestyle. Because of the shockproof design, this smartphone may be one of the more rugged Motorola Android handset to be launched.

The CyanogenMod team has now come up with the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean based CM10.2 Nightly Build ROM for Motorola Droid RAZR M XT907. This is just an after market custom ROM and not an official firmware by Motorola or Google. This CyanogenMod custom ROM is high on features and has been designed to deliver better performance and reliability than the stock Android. The CyanogenMod team has been rolling out Nightly builds of CM10.2 (all based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean) with new features and customizations. The latest builds of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware based CyanogenMod 10.2 Custom ROMs have been built from the sources of Android Open Source Project (AOSP). It comes with some security enhancement along with many new features and more customizations. Step by step Installation guide for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Based CM10.2 Nightly ROM on Motorola Droid RAZR M

Step 1:

Download the CM10.2 Nightly ROM [Filename: cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-xt907.zip] and Google Apps [Filename: gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip] using the given link- (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/38923/cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-xt907.zip)

Step 2:

Connect your Motorola Droid RAZR M device to the PC via USB cable.

Step 3:

Copy the downloaded zip files to the SD card of your smartphone. Do not extract any file.

Step 4:

Disconnect the USB cable and then switch off your phone after copying the files to the SD card.

Step 5:

Now you need to boot into the Safestrap recovery mode. For doing so, press power button to switch the device on. You will see the Safestrap screen after the Motorola splash screen. The Safestrap screen will show Safestrap Disabled in red, Continue button towards the bottom right hand side and Recovery button towards the bottom left. Tap on the Recovery button to boot into the Safestrap recovery mode. Alternatively you can go for : Recovery Mode without Key Combination.

Step 6:

Don’t forget to perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM. This will help you to restore back later in case the new ROM does not works or if you want to go back to your previous ROM. To perform a Nandroid backup, select Backup and Restore. Then, select the Backup option again. After completing the backup process, go back to the main recovery menu.

Step 7:

You need to do some wiping task so as to eliminate a clash between your new ROM and the previous one. For performing the wiping, select the wipe data/factory reset option. On the next screen, select YES to confirm. Wait for the wiping process to be over. It may take a few minutes. Now go back to the CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition. Once the wiping cache partition process has been completed, select the Wipe Dalvik Cache option under advance options to perform Dalvik cache wiping. Move to the next step after this process is over.

Step 8:

Select install zip from sdcard option. Now select the “choose zip from sdcard” option. Navigate to the cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-xt907.zip file that you copied in your SD card. Press the Power button th select it. Confirm the installation on the next screen. The ROM installation procedure will now start.

Step 9:

After the ROM installation process is complete, repeat the above step but this time choose gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip file instead of the ROM zip file. This will install the Google apps package.

Step 10:

After this whole process is complete, go to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now. The device will now boot into this new ROM. The first boot may take some time (about 5 minutes)

Avatar team has launched their latest nightly build. This is an Android jellybean 4.2.2 based ROM which is named Avatar ROM build 3.1. And the best thing is Motorola Droid 3 users can download and install this ROM on their device. This is not an official firmware that is launched for Droid 3 but an aftermarket custom ROM which is launched by the Avatar team. The Droid 3 not yet received the jellybean 4.2.2 update but you can use the features of the version by installing the avatar ROM. Installing custom ROM will give your phone new customised looks and features with smooth and fast operation. They had also launched the final stable version Build 3.0 some time before and now is currently rolling out the nightly build for all devices including the Droid 3.This version is build by adding extras features to the popular ROM Cyanogen Mod 10.1. Instruction to Install the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean based Avatar ROM Build 3.1 on Motorola Droid 3.

Step 1:

First download the Avatar ROM Build 3.1 for Droid 3 and Google Apps

Step 2:

Connect your Droid 3 using the USB cable and the mount your storage.

Step 3:

Copy the downloaded files into the SD card without extracting the files.

Step4:

Disconnect phone after the copying process is finished and switch off the phone.

Step5:

Now boot into recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume down and power button together until the recovery load( use volume button to scroll and power button to select) You can also try this: Recovery Mode without Key Combination

Step6:

It is important to backup your existing ROM, it will be handy if the new ROM is not working or if you want to go back to your previous ROM. To do the process, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup process done.

Step7:

To avoid clashing between the new ROM and previous ROM you will need to perform some wiping task. To wipe, select wipe data/factory reset, then select yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wiping process done. Now go back to CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition and after wiping cache partition process completed, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to perform Dalvik cache wiping. After the process is done it is safe to proceed to the next step.

Step8:

For installing the Slimbean, Select install zip from SD card, and then select choose zip from SD card. Now, locate the avatar-nightly_3.1-369-20130809-NIGHTLY-solana.zip file that you copied earlier in Step 3 and select it by pressing Power button. On the next screen confirm the installation. And the installation process will start.

Step9:

After the installation process, install the Google apps by repeating the process you have done in the step 8 the only difference is selecting the gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip instead of ROM zip.

Step10:

After all the process is done. Go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot the phone. The smartphone will get booted into the new ROM, the first boot usually take about 5 minutes. (Max 15 min or it will get stuck on the boot screen.)
